Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

Erga-Logoi is a peer-reviewed open-access journal of ancient history, literature, law and culture, as broadly conceived in geographical and chronological terms. Evoking Thucydides' methodological exordium (although in that context the opposition obviously has a different value), the name of the Journal was chosen to reflect its intention of looking at the ancient world paying attention to both “facts” (historical events, artistic production, material culture) and “words” (literary, historical, legal production in its oral and written forms).

On these bases, the Journal embraces a unified approach to the ancient world, rejecting sectional perspectives for an interdisciplinary focus, reflecting these complex articulated civilizations.

The Journal, published every six months, is open to contributions of a historical, philological, literary, archaeological, artistic, and legal nature. It is multilingual, thereby aiming to foster the development of international debate on the ancient world and its legacy.

This journal does not charge APCs or submission charges. 

 

Erga-Logoi è una rivista open-access, soggetta a peer-review, di storia, letteratura, diritto e culture dell'antichità; un concetto, quest'ultimo, da intendere in senso ampio sul piano dell'estensione geografica e cronologica. Il titolo è stato scelto per sottolineare, evocando il proemio metodologico di Tucidide - benché la contrapposizione abbia ovviamente, in quel contesto, valore diverso -, l'intento di guardare al mondo antico prestando attenzione sia al "fatto" (gli eventi storici, la produzione artistica, la cultura materiale), sia al "detto" (il discorso poetico, letterario, storico, normativo nella sua forma orale e scritta).

Di conseguenza, la Rivista propone con convinzione un approccio unitario al mondo antico, respingendo prospettive settoriali in favore di un'impostazione fortemente interdisciplinare: l'unica che può consentire un'adeguata comprensione della civiltà complessa e articolata, sul piano cronologico, geografico e soprattutto contenutistico, che il mondo antico ha espresso.

La Rivista, che esce con cadenza semestrale, è dunque aperta a contributi di carattere storico, filologico, letterario, archeologico, artistico, giuridico; ha carattere multilingue e intende con ciò contribuire allo sviluppo di un dibattito internazionale sul mondo antico e sulla sua eredità.

Questa Rivista non applica alcun costo di submission e di pubblicazione.

Publication Frequency

The journal is issued every 6 months.

 

Peer Review Process

Erga-Logoi is a peer-reviewed journal.

Works submitted to the Journal should be original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

The Executive Editor first reviews each submission to determine whether or not it is suitable to be sent out to the peer reviewers.
All submitted works judged suitable for review undergo anonymous double-blind review process.
Papers will be evaluated by at least 2 referees and, following their indications, will be either accepted, or returned to the authors for corrections, or rejected. The final decision is the responsibility of the Executive Editor, and will be given within three months of receipt.

In submitting works to the journal, authors agree that their works may be published (if accepted). Submission of a work does not guarantee acceptance.

 

Erga-Logoi è una rivista sottoposta a peer-review.

I contributi inviati alla Rivista devono essere originali e non in corso di contemporanea valutazione per essere pubblicati altrove.

La Direzione della rivista opera una prima revisione per determinare se le proposte di pubblicazione hanno i requisiti indispensabili per poter essere ammesse alla peer-review. Tutte le proposte di pubblicazione giudicate idonee vengono sottoposte a revisione anonima in modalità “double-blind”.
I contributi vengono valutati da almeno due revisori e, secondo le loro indicazioni, vengono accettati,  o reinviati agli Autori con suggerimenti di modifiche, o rifiutati. La decisione definitiva relativa alla pubblicazione viene presa dalla Direzione e viene comunicata entro tre mesi.

Inviando i propri contributi alla Rivista, gli autori acconsentono alla loro pubblicazione (se accettati). L’invio non garantisce l’accettazione.

 

Open Access Policy

The files included in Erga-Logoi are freely available: no registration or subscription required to read, print, download and share the full-text of articles.

The works included in the Journal are licensed under a Creative Commons “Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND)” license.

The Journal provides immediate open access to its content. Nevertheless you may not use the material for commercial purposes or in commercial websites.

Any reference to material included in Erga-Logoi has to include the citation of the author and the source.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

Erga-Logoi. Rivista di storia, letteratura, diritto e culture dell'antichità expects all parties involved in the act of publishing commit to these publication ethics. Our Editorial Board will remove any work that does not meet these standards. Our ethic statements are based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Authors of Erga-Logoi. Rivista di storia, letteratura, diritto e culture dell'antichità must undertake the following responsibilities

  • Originality and Plagiarism: The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.
  • Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication: An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
  • Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
  • Fundamental errors in published works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

Reviewers of Erga-Logoi. Rivista di storia, letteratura, diritto e culture dell'antichità must  undertake the following responsibilities

  • Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.
  • Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.
  • Confidentiality: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
  • Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
  • Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
  • Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Editors of Erga-Logoi. Rivista di storia, letteratura, diritto e culture dell'antichità must undertake the following responsibilities

  • Fair play: An editor at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
  • Confidentiality: The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

 

Archiving and Self-Archiving

Authors may self-archive the post-print (ie the final draft post-refereeing) and the final published files in their institutional repositories.
