Un racconto di Donald Barthelme: “T. S. Eliot, interbase”

Vincenza Rosiello

Abstract

This paper provides an annotated Italian translation of the pastiche “T. S. Eliot, shortstop” included in Donald Barthelme’s posthumous collection The Teachings of Don B. – Satires, Parodies, Fables, Illustrated Stories, and Plays. This short story sheds new light on the link between sport and literature, and the genesis of Thomas Stearns Eliot’s The Waste Land. Furthermore, it represents a typical example of the writing style that Thomas Pynchon, in his witty introduction, called Barthelmismo.
