Intangible Cultural Assets. The Relationships with Creative Economy and Tourism Development

Nicola Boccella, Irene Salerno

Abstract

This paper aims to focus on the bond between intangible assets, creative and cultural industries, in view of the creative economy development. More in details, we want to deepen their effect on tourism, economic growth and local development and with respect to: – Effects on the employment; – Social inclusion of fragile target groups; – Suggestion to develop policies in favor of the future generations. Through the analysis of two case studies – such as the impact on local growth of the Australian indigenous visual art and of the music in Senegal – , and analysing the most recent literature on cultural and creative industries and development, this works aims, in the end, to outline the most relevant features and to point out a transferrable model to be applied to diverse geographic, sectorial contexts in order to promote the role of both tangible and intangible cultural aspects as driving forces to local development.
