Call for Papers: Vol. 8 (2020) – No 1-2 – Animal Ethics History: the Protagonists and the Different Approaches to our Relationships with the Other Sentient Beings

The seventies of the twentieth century represented a decade of turning point in our moral consideration of non-human sentient beings, giving rise to an area of practical ethics, animal ethics, which since then has known extensive developments and articulations. The next issues of “Relations” are dedicated to the protagonists of this story and to the various approaches that over the last fifty years have been used to find convincing answers about the moral status of non-human animals. Contributions concerning the reflection on animals by philosophers such as P. Singer, T. Regan, S. F. Sapontzis, M. Midgley, J. Rachels, D. DeGrazia, C. M. Korsgaard, L. Gruen, M. Nussbaum, G. Francione, C. Diamond ecc. are welcome, as well as contributions on the different approaches that have characterized and still characterize animal ethics: utilitarianism, deontological approach, virtue ethics, feminist ethics, the capabilities approach ecc.
